Exposing Lives of Millions of Citizens in Damascus to Danger to Protect Terrorists in Ghouta Is Unacceptable

NEW YORK, (ST)- Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations has stressed that the terrorist groups in Eastern Ghouta target Damascus on a daily basis with hundreds of rockets and mortar shells, reiterating that exposing the lives of 8 million Syrians in Damascus to danger to protect terrorists in Eastern Ghouta is unacceptable.

Al-Jaafari, who was speaking during a Security Council session on Friday on the situation in Syria, said “the draft resolution submitted by Kuwait and Sweden to the Security Council on the situation in Syria was not coordinated with Syria’s delegation and this is a shame.”

He added that the terrorist organizations in Eastern Ghouta put hands on humanitarian aid, distribute the aid materials on their elements and arrest all who protest against the terrorists’ behavior.

The Syrian diplomat went on to say that the international coalition led by Washington allegedly to fight Daesh moved from the era of aggression by proxy, through supporting terrorism in Syria, to the era of direct aggression on the country in order to achieve what the terrorists have failed to achieve.

In addition, the UN ignores the crimes of the US-led coalition which have destroyed Raqqa entirely under the pretext of fighting Daesh terror organization and also ignores the Turkish aggression on Syria’s Afrin city, said al-Jaafari, noting that this stresses that the international organization is experiencing a crisis in terms of ethics and profession by adopting the stances of the countries supporting terrorism in Syria and by denying the Syrian government’s right to defend its citizens.
