Egypt is against Any Military Interventions that Violate Syria’s Sovereignty, Undermine Political Settlement

CAIRO, (ST)- Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri has reaffirmed his country’s support for political solution in Syria that preserves the Syrian state’s unity and institutions and meets the aspirations of the Syrian people.

Ahmad Abu Zeid, Spokesman of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, said that during his meeting on Saturday with the UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in Germany, Shukri  stressed Egypt’s rejection to any military interventions that violate Syria’s sovereignty and undermine opportunities of political settlement in the country. He asserted the need to coordinate the efforts and moves of international and regional parties during the coming era in order to urge all the Syrian sides to reach solutions that are acceptable by all as to attain lasting political settlement and end the crisis in the country.

 Abu Zeid pointed out that de Mistura, on his part, talked about the developments of the process of finding a solution to the crisis in Syria and explained his vision on this issue in the light of the contacts and consultations he made recently as well as the results of the Syrian National Dialogue Congress held late January in the Russian city of Sochi.
