US-led Coalition’ s Real Task Is to Support Terrorists in Syria: Al-Jaafari

NEW YORK, (ST)- Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Bashar Al-Jaafari has stressed that only the Syrian people can decide the future of their country through Syrian-Syrian dialogue and that Syria is committed to what the Syrians have voted on at the Syrian National Dialogue Congress in Sochi and it is not concerned in any committee imposed by foreign sides.

American Troops’ Presence in Syria Violates UNSC Resolution No. 2254

In a statement during a Security Council session on Syria on Wednesday, al-Jaafari said the American forces’ presence in Syria violates UN Security Council Resolution No. 2254 which was accepted by the US itself and which affirmed the need to preserve Syria’s sovereignty, independence and unity.

He added that article 2 of the UN Charter provided for respecting the principle of equal sovereignty and for not threatening any country of the use of force, “and here we have the right to ask what the Security Council has so far done to guarantee respecting the UN Charter’s goals.”

Al-Jaafari went on to say that the US, France and Britain have dedicated all their abilities to target Syria, as a land and as people. He pointed out that the terrorist groups have used civilians as human shields and they have so far attacked Damascus areas with some 1000 rockets and shells.

He reiterated that the support provided by some countries for the terrorists has cost USD 137 million, pointing out that Wikileaks uncovered the American anti-Syria policies.

US-Led Coalition Supports terrorist

He stressed that the real task of the so-called international coalition led by the United States is to support terrorists in Syria.

“This coalition has deliberately destroyed 90 percent of the city of Raqqa,” Jaafari said. “This coalition has not felt to uphold its commitment to neutralize the mines left behind by Daesh.”

Al-Jaafari regretted the briefing presented by the UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura at the Security Council in which “he didn’t mention the presence of American and Turkish occupation in my country”.

He asserted that Syria highly appreciates the role being played by Russia, especially President Vladimir Putin’s efforts to hold the Syrian National Dialogue Congress in Sochi which stresses that the political process will never start or continue except with a Syrian leadership.
