Participants of Sochi Congress Appeal to International Community to Contribute to Syria Reconstruction
SOCHI, (ST)- Participants in the Syrian National Dialogue Congress, held on January 29 and 30 in the Russian city of Sochi, have appealed to the United Nations, international humanitarian organizations and the international community to contribute to Syria reconstruction and to helping the Syrians surpass the repercussions of the terrorist war and unjust unilateral sanctions imposed on them.
In their appeal, the participants said “we, the participants in the Syrian National Dialogue Congress in Sochi, are confident that the war in Syria against terrorism is nearing its end. Thousands of houses, schools, hospitals, factories, railways, power plants, irrigation system and historical and religious heritage have been destroyed as a result of the war on Syria.”
They called on the UN and the international community to adopt procedures as to help the Syrians surpass the negative consequences of the war, like providing medicines, food and construction materials, medical equipment and industrial machinery, in addition to expanding landmine clearance operations.
They also called for preparing suitable conditions for restoring normal life in Syria, for putting an end to the suffering of the Syrians and for cooperation to help displaced families return. They said that this can be achieved through independent intra-Syrian dialogue based on Security Council Resolution No.2254.
They urged lifting the unilateral sanctions imposed on the Syrian people, stressing that this would help solve economic and humanitarian problems and give impetus to the process of reconstruction in the country.
