SOCHI, (ST)- Iran’s Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hussein Jaberi Ansari has stressed that the Syrian national Dialogue Congress, currently held in Russia’s Sochi, is a completion of Astana process on Syria and of other initiatives that aimed at finding a political solution to crisis in Syria.
In a statement to journalists on Tuesday, Jaberi Ansari, who also serves as Iran’s senior negotiator in Syria talks, hailed the talks underway in Sochi as significant due to remarkable number of members from Syrian society attending the event.
He said that Sochi Congress “is like Astana meetings, it completes the efforts exerted at the international level to solve the crisis in Syria and we are working to link between the different tracks to attain settlement in Syria.”
He noted some differences between the three guarantors of the cessation of hostilities agreement in Syria (Russia, Iran and Turkey), clarifying that what is more important is the spirit of seriousness and the political will to continue the process and assist the Syrian people to end the crisis in their country.
The Iranian diplomat pointed out that the Iranian presence in Syria came at the request of the legitimate Syrian government to help eliminate terrorism, stressing that this presence will end after the mission is accomplished and in accordance with an agreement with Syria.
