Turkish Aggression Continues to Target Residential Neighborhoods, Archaeological Places in Syria’s Afrin

ALEPPO, (ST)-  the Turkish aggression continues for the ninth day running to target residential areas as well as worshipping places and archaeological sites in Syria’s Afrin area and  the surrounding villages.

Using different kinds of weapon, the Turkish army forces on Sunday bombarded villages and towns in Jandaris area in Afrin city in northern Aleppo countryside, according to local sources.

The Turkish brutal attacks destroyed a number of houses and shops as well as Salahuddin al-Ayyubi Mosque and Jandaris town’s cemetery , the sources said, adding that the infrastructure in the targeted towns and villages was seriously damaged making the citizens’ life more difficult because of the continuous shelling and the absence of electricity and water.

 Antiquities and Museums Directorate condemns Turkish aggression on archaeological sites in Afrin

The General Directorate for Antiquities and Museums at the Ministry of Culture said that the Turkish aggression on archaeological sites in Afrin area destroyed Ain Dara Temple, one of the most important archaeological buildings as it was built by the Arameans during the first millennium BC, SANA reported.

The directorate called for international pressure on Turkey to prevent the targeting of archaeological and cultural sites in Afrin area, which is one of the richest areas in antiquities and cultural heritage in Syria.

86 civilians have been killed and 198 civilians have been injured including children, women and elderly during the first week of the Turkish aggression which also caused huge material damage to the infrastructure stopped citizens’ movement.
