DAMASCUS, (ST)-Enhancing cooperation between the Syrian government and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to meet the humanitarian needs of the Syrian people was the focus of the meeting held on Monday between Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem and head of the IFRC Francesco Rocca.
Al-Moallem talked about the Syrian government’s efforts in cooperation with International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) as to meet the basic needs of the Syrian citizens and to alleviate the impacts of the humanitarian crisis caused by the crimes of the foreign-backed terrorist organizations and by the economic sanctions imposed on Syria and that mainly affect the living of Syrian citizens.
He hailed the active role played by SARC to deliver relief and humanitarian aid to people affected by the crisis in different Syrian areas, expressing the government’s readiness to boost cooperate with IFRC, particularly in the light of the victories achieved by the Syrian Arab army and its allies and friends over terrorism. He pointed out that these victories have led to the restoration of several areas that were previously held by takfiri terrorist groups, thus it is important to meet the humanitarian needs of the citizens who return to these areas or those who are resident there.
On his part, Rocca thanked the Syrian government for cooperation with IFRC and for the efforts it has been exerting to deliver humanitarian aid the Syrians affected by terrorism. He stressed the need to support all the people who suffer because of wars and armed conflicts around the world and the need to eliminate all obstacles hindering humanitarian activities.
He affirmed the IFRC’s full commitment to supporting the Syrian Arab Red Crescent Society given the great role it has been playing under the crisis in Syria.
Earlier in the day, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal al-Mikdad and Rocca discussed the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Syria because of the terrorist war on the country and talked about ways of alleviating the repercussions of this war on Syrian civilians.
