GENEVA, (ST)- The UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura has stressed the need to press ahead with the intra-Syrian dialogue in Geneva without pre-conditions and to intensify the diplomatic moves to find a political solution to the crisis in Syria.
In a press conference on Geneva on Thursday, de Mistura said “we discussed over the past two days with the participating delegations the four baskets, particularly the “constitution” and the “elections”.
De Mistura added that after the defeat of Daesh terrorist organization in its last bastion in Syria, “we have to find a political solution to the crisis”, pointing out that the 8th round of Geneva talks will be resumed on December 5th and it will last till mid December”.
On the opposition’s commitment to the UN Resolution No. 2254 and to holding talks without pre-conditions, de Mistura said ” the only guarantee can be provided by the delegations. What we are trying to do is to guarantee the commitment of all parties to the UN resolutions and unconditional dialogue, otherwise there will be negative results.”

The Syrian Arab Republic delegation led by Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Bashar al-Jaafari on Thursday held talks with UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura at the UN headquarters within the framework of the 8th round of Intra-Syrian talks in Geneva.
The talks focused on the importance of serious and responsible engagement in dialogue. Talks also dealt with the paper of the main principles which was presented several months ago by the delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic.
On Wednesday, the Syrian government’s delegation held a session of talks with de Mistura to discuss means of pushing the intra-Syrian talks forwards and the importance of not putting any pre-conditions that could obstruct the dialogue or undermine it.
Geneva has so far hosted seven rounds of intra-Syrian talks, the latest of which was held on July 14th.
