US-Led Coalition Acknowledges Killing of More than 800 Civilians in Iraq and Syria

BAGHDAD, (ST)- The US-led coalition purportedly fighting Daesh has acknowledged that its airstrikes have killed at least 800 civilians in Iraq and Syria since 2014.

Observers stress that the figures published by Washington-led coalition about the number of civilian victims are far from reality as according to recent statistics conducted by the Airwars Monitoring Group, at least 5961 civilians were killed in the coalition’s airstrikes.

A coalition’s monthly report, from which Reuters quoted some excerpts, said that 801 civilians have been confirmed killed in the coalition’s airstrikes between August 2014 and October 2017. Assessment of some 695 reports on civilian deaths caused by the illegal coalition’s airstrikes are underway.

Washington established an illegal coalition without the UN Security Council approval in August 2014 under the pretext of fighting terrorism in Syria. However, facts have unveiled that the coalition has attacked infrastructure and committed massacres against civilians.

The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has repeatedly called on the Security Council to work as to immediately dissolve the US-led international coalition and to put an end to its acts of aggression and massacres against innocent civilians in Syria. The ministry also urged all countries to implement the Security Council resolution relating to fighting terrorism.
