MP Fares Shehabi to ST: There are Russian and Iranian Guarantees that Turkey Won’t Expand in Syrian Territories

Syrian Member of Parliament Fares Shehabi told the Syriatimes e-newspaper that there are Russian and Iranian guarantees that Turkey will not attack new Syrian areas or expand in the Syrian territories.

Commenting on reports that Washington gave a green light to the Turkish president to attack Afrin area in Aleppo province by announcing its intention to stop arming Syrian Kurds, the MP said: “There are Russian and Iranian guarantees that Turkey will not launch an attack or expand in Syrian territories,” stressing that the Syrian government will face any new Turkish aggression by all means.

“We hope that Syrian Kurds will join the Syrian army and abandon their dream of separation. Syria will never allow them to achieve this dream because it endangers all of us and destroys our homeland,” he added.

“I think the Syrian government will face any new Turkish aggression in several ways depending on people’s support to the army and their rejection for the Ottoman dreams. We do not trust Erdogan and his government,” Shehabi said.

It is worth noting that the US administration announced two weeks ago that it will stop arming Syrian Kurds. However, it continued to supply the SDF with arms and sent on November 27 hundreds of trucks loaded with heavy armament for the Deir Ezzor operation.

On Monday, the Turkish Minister of Defense said that his country will start military operation in Afrin area in Aleppo province.
