Syrian Arab Republic’s Delegation to Arrive in Geneva tomorrow to Take Part in 8th Round of Intra-Syrian Talks

DAMASCUS, (ST)- The Syria Arab Republic have decided to take part in the 8th round of intra-Syrian talks due to be held in Geneva following intensive contacts and consultations between the Syrian and Russian sides over the past two days, according to a source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.

The source told SANA that the delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic, led by Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari, will arrive in Geneva on Wednesday to participate in the talks.

 On Monday, the UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura affirmed that the intra-Syrian talks in Geneva should be resumed without preconditions.

Geneva has so far hosted seven rounds of intra-Syrian talks, the latest of which was held on July 14th.

According to de Mistura, the talks are to focus on issues related to the constitution, elections then the rule and counter-terrorism. He stressed the need to help the Syrians build confidence, to resolve the issue of the kidnapped and to guarantee the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need.
