Illegal US-Led Coalition Seeks Hindering Real Counterterrorism Efforts

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Syria has called on the Security Council to immediately move to stop the illegal US-led coalition’s barbaric crimes and violations against the Syrian civilians and sovereignty, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said on Sunday in a letter addressing the UN Chief and President of the Security Council regarding the coalition’s continuous attacks against the Syrians.

On Saturday, the warplanes of the US-led alliance attacked residential areas in al-Duwaiji village in Tal al-Shaer area in Deir Ezzor countryside near the Syrian-Iraqi borders, killing more than 10 civilians and a number of paramedics who tried to help injured people, in addition to causing massive material damage to locals’ properties and homes. These crimes came as a response to the victories being achieved by the Syrian army over ISIS terror group in Deir Ezzor.

According to the ministry’s letter,  the feverish attempts by the international coalition to block the progress of the Syrian army and its allies in the fight against ISIS confirms the coalition’s suspicious role and its threat to real efforts aiming to fight ISIS takfiri organization.

The ministry added that the Syrian government expresses it strong condemnation of the coalition’s attacks and war crimes against civilians and criticizes the silence of many parties, which claim that they are keen on the sovereignty of the law and human rights, over the coalition’s massacres in the Syrian provinces of Raqqa and Deir Ezzor.

The Syrian government affirms that attempts by some Security Council members states  to distance themselves from these crimes equal their being partners in these crimes, the ministry added.
