Obstacles Facing Establishment of De-Escalation Zone in Idleb Discussed in Astana 7 Meeting on Syria

ASTANA, (ST)- The delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic led by Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari held a meeting on Tuesday with Kazakhstan Minister of Foreign Affairs Kairat Abdrakhmanov within the framework of the Astana 7 meeting on Syria.

The two sides discussed topics on the agenda of Astana 7 and assessed what has been implemented of the results of Astana 6 meeting held last month.

A source close to the meeting between the Syrian delegation and the Kazakh foreign minister told SANA That talks focused on the difficulties and obstacles that faced implementing the decisions of Astana 6, particularly the establishment of a de-escalation zone in Idleb.

 The Syrian delegation briefed the Kazakh side on the latest developments regarding the fight against terrorism, said the source, pointing out that the two sides agreed on continuous contacts as to reach as good results as possible.

The second day of Astana 7 stated with a trilateral meeting between the delegations of the guarantor countries; Russia, Iran and Turkey. Another meeting at the expert level was also held to discuss the topics listed on the agenda of the Astana 7 meeting which concludes today afternoon after a plenary session.

 On Monday, the delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic held two consultative meetings with Head of the Iranian and Russian delegations; Deputy Foreign Minister Hussein Jaberi Ansari and the Russian President Special Envoy for Syria Alexander Laverntiev.
