Iran Urges Nuclear Disarmament

New York – Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) urged disarming the nuclear-armed states.

Gholamali Khoshroo, addressing a meeting of the UN General Assembly to consider annual report of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Thursday, said that the ICJ is playing a crucial role in peaceful alleviation and resolution of the disputes.

NAM is calling the UN institutions to consult the Court in their legal issues, said the Iranian envoy.

Referring to the ICJ consultative vote on the illegitimacy of any threat or use of nuclear weapons, he urged disarming the states that possess nuclear weapons.

He also urged putting an end to the occupation of Palestinian territories in line with the consultative vote of the legal body.

Pakistan terms JCPOA a good model to solve int’l issues

On the other hand in Islamabad, Pakistan says Iran nuclear deal also called Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) presents a good model for mutually agreed settlement of issues at the international level.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson NafeesZakaria during his weekly news briefing in Islamabad on Friday called upon all members of the JCPOA to adhere to their commitments regarding the agreement.

“The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has repeatedly confirmed Iran’s compliance with JCPOA and we also noted that other parties of the agreement have lent their support for its continuation,” he said.

“We call upon all sides to adhere to their commitments regarding JCPOA and uphold the agreement,” he pointed out.

On Oct 13, US President Donald Trump took a new strategy towards Iran and decertified Tehran’s commitment to the JCPOA.

Trump’s approach has been criticized by many countries, international bodies, political communities and world media.

Nafees Zakaria to another question said that China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is an economic project that will benefit not only the people of Pakistan but of the entire region and Central Asian countries.

He said that Pakistan believes in peaceful neighborhood and bilateral ties of Pakistan are not determined by other countries.

The official said that Afghanistan has been in turmoil for many years which is creating space for terror outfits like Daesh in the country.

He said that other countries of the region have also expressed their concerns on presence of Daesh in Afghanistan.
