DAMASCUS, (ST)- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has urged the US Security Council to assume its responsibilities towards preserving international peace and security, putting an end to the crimes being perpetrated by the US-led coalition against the Syrian people and enforcing the implementation of the council’s resolutions on fighting terrorism, particularly resolution No. 2253/2015.
In two identical letters addressing the UN Chief and President of the Security Council, the ministry said that on October 1 and 2 , 2017, the illegal US-led coalition committed two massacres in its airstrikes against residential areas in some cities and villages in Deir Ezzor and Raqqa, claiming the lives of 57 civilians, most of them women and children, injuring tens others and causing huge material damage to properties.
A few days ago, the coalition acknowledged that its airstrikes have killed some 800 citizens since it started its operations, the ministry added, stressing that the real number of civilian deaths is much bigger than the one acknowledged by the coalition, a matter that indicates the horrible crimes of this illegal coalition.
The ministry went on to say that Syria is deeply concerned over the silence of the international community on these repeated crimes.
In the same context, the ministry said that the United States orders its tools and agents within the terrorist organizations in Syria to hinder the progress of the Syrian Arab army in Deir Ezzor in order to prevent its advancement towards areas held by ISIS terrorist organization. It pointed out that such behavior indicates the real intentions of the destructive American policy in Syria which must be stopped immediately.
The ministry expressed great anger over the silence of the UN and of a big number of countries over the terrorist blasts that yesterday hit al-Midan Police Station in Damascus which led to the martyrdom of several people and the injury of scores others.
The government of the Syrian Arab republic strongly condemns the international coalition’s crimes against Syrian civilians and infrastructure and renews its call for immediate dissolution of this illegal coalition which was established without the request of the Syrian government and outside the framework of the United Nations.
