UN Chief Calls for Political Solution to Crisis in Syria

NEWYORK,(ST)_ The UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon has called on the international community and the government and the opposition in Syria to act immediately to reach a political solution to the crisis in Syria.

A statement issued by the Spokesman for the UN  Secretary-General quoted  by Russia Today said:  “What you should be done  is to reach a political solution immediately in order to prevent total  destruction of Syria , as long as there is still time for that,” noting  the need that all parties  should  “abandon the military option for a solution ” .

The statement, which was circulated  at the UN  Headquarters in New York noted the  consequences of resorting to weapons rather than  political dialogue, saying that “what happened in Syria of destruction and killing was the result of opting  weapons over  political dialogue.”
