Damascus, (ST) – Minister of Transport Eng. Ali Hammoud discussed with the delegation of Russian industrialists and businessmen how to develop relations and expand cooperation in the transport sectors including air, sea, land and railway.
Members of the delegation gave a presentation on cooperation in all transport projects with the Ministry of Transport pointing out that the establishment of the Damascus International Fair in its current session represents “a real proof of Syria’s economic recovery and the Syrians’ insistence on life and steadfastness.
Head of the Russian delegation, Alexander Viktorovitch Abonov, stressed the importance of signing a memorandum of understanding between the two countries to document the work properly and start promotional campaigns in the Russian Federation to encourage visiting Syria and to see the mechanism of work and existing projects, especially the strategy such as the establishment of a new airport in Damascus and an alternative port in Lattakia.
The Minister confirmed that “the recovery phase started in Syria. The government is currently studying the steps of reconstruction.” He expressed the desire to benefit from the experiences of Russian companies and factories in the transfer of technology and investment in the business, especially in the field of aviation, engine reconstruction, road rehabilitation, railway maintenance, and the establishment of vital investments in Syria.
“We need quick steps to activate cooperation with Russian transport institutions and there are many facilitations for investors, especially for Russian friends,” Mr. Hammoud said.
For his part, the coordinator of the visit Nawaf Ibrahim talked on the importance of the historical relationship between Russia and Syria, pointing out that the Russian delegation, which is currently visiting Syria, “represents the International Conference of industrialists and businessmen, the largest economic gathering in the Russian Federation.””
