JCPOA opens new chapter in foreign policy: Iran President

Tehran– The July 2015 nuclear deal did prepare a ‘new plan’ for the interaction with the world, said the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, adding that the international agreement unlocked new doors to the country’s foreign policy.

‘Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPPOA) is a win-win agreement which offered ways of interaction with the world,’ President Rouhani said, addressing the Majlis (Parliament) open session this morning to review the government’s plans and give vote of confidence to the proposed ministers, IRNA reported.

Describing Iran’s nuclear program as the country’s most complicated question, the president said it was a great accomplishment after a series of intensive expert talks.

Turning to the issue of the US lack of commitment, the president said the reason for Washington’s disloyalty is Tehran’s success in fulfilling its commitments.

‘Iran is faithful to its commitments and will seriously respond to any violation,’ the Iranian president stressed.

He further underlined that the seven reports released by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Iran have confirmed that the country has fully implemented the JCPOA.

‘The world in recent months has clearly seen that this is the US, particularly in the Trump’s tenure, that has ignored the international agreements [including the JCPOA],’ said he while referring to Paris Agreement, North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) and agreement with Cuba as the deals which have been violated by the US president.

‘Iran, during the history, has been loyal to all its international commitments, and will continue to do this,’ Rouhani noted, stressing the country will confidently and vigilantly safeguard the rights of the nation when dealing with disloyalties.

‘JCPOA is an example of thought of peace,’ said Rouhani, adding Iran as ‘a harbor of peace’ extends its hand of friendship to the neighbors.

Touching the regional developments, President Rouhani said that the regional problems will be solved solely through the regional solutions.
