Cooperation between Syria, UNICEF Essential to Alleviate Impacts of Crisis on Children: Al-Mikdad

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Faisal al-Mikdad has reiterated the essential role that can be played by UNICEF in alleviating the impacts of the crisis on children in cooperation with the Syrian government.

Receiving the credentials of the new Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Syria Francisco Equiza during a meeting on Tuesday, al-Mikdad affirmed the Syrian government continuous cooperation with UNICEF representative in Syria as to support the organization’s humanitarian programs that serve the Syrian people in general and the Syrian children in particular.

 The deputy minister, who hailed the projects implemented by the organization in the health, education and water sectors in Syria, affirmed the importance of carrying out joint projects and missions, recalling the procedures adopted by the Syrian government, particularly in the education and health domains, to support the rights of the Syrian children and which led Syria to occupy a leading position in the world in terms of protecting childhood.

He noted the negative impacts of terrorism on the government’s efforts in the light of the crimes and blatant violations committed by the terrorist groups and their supporter against the rights of the Syrian children.  

 On his part, Equiza said he was happy to work in Syria as a representative of UNICEF Office, noting the Syrian government’s achievements in the area of protecting and caring about childhood , particularly in the domains of education and health.

He asserted that UNICEF would continue to implement important projects in Syria, especially providing vaccines and drinking water to affected Syrian citizens, expressing hope that relations between the Syrian government and UNICEF will be consolidated.
