Al-Attar Hopes Syrian-Tunisian Diplomatic Ties will Be Restored

DAMASCUS– Vice President Najah al-Attar has expressed hope that diplomatic ties between Syria and Tunisia will be restored soon.

She made the remarks during a meeting on Sunday with a visiting Tunisian parliamentary delegation, led by MP Mbarka Brahmi,

Al-Attar highlighted the deep-rooted historical cultural and educational relations between Tunisia and Syria.

“We believe in the unity of our identity, goals and aspirations. We have never forgotten the necessity of joint work to achieve our goals,” she said, expressing hope that diplomatic relations between the two countries will be restored.

She hailed the Tunisian people’s struggle in defense of the Arab nation and their support for Syria in its war on terrorism, stressing that Syria’s victory over terrorism is imminent.

On her part, Brahimi affirmed that the Syrian Arab Army is fighting on behalf of the entire Arab nation and that Syria is paying a heavy price because it has not bowed to the U.S. and Zionist dictates and has not signed a peace agreement with the Zionist entity.

She urged higher diplomatic representation between Tunisia and Syria to meet the two peoples’ aspirations, stressing that the Tunisians who were misled into joining the ranks of the terrorist organizations do not represent the Tunisian people.

Brahmi: We apologize to Syria for the suffering cause by some Tunisian Mercenaries who Don’t Represent Tunisian People

Earlier,  Deputy Speaker of the People’s Assembly Najdat Anzour and the Tunisian delegation discussed reactivating cooperation and contacts between the parliaments of the two countries.

Anzour stressed that the visit by a Tunisian parliamentary delegation to Syria “indicates the Tunisian people’s real willingness to restore normal ties with Syria.”

Following the meeting, head of the guest delegation Mbarka Brahmi held a press conference in which she stressed that the delegation came to Syria to voice solidarity with Syria’s people, army and leadership in the war against foreign-backed terrorist organizations.

She went on to say that the Syria is being targeted by terrorism because of its national principled stances on just Arab causes, namely the Palestinian cause, stressing that during their visit to Aleppo, members of the delegation noticed the strong determination of the Syrians to defeat terrorism and rebuild their country.

Brahimi criticized the “al-Nahda Movement” anti-Syria stances, stressing that encouraging some Tunisians to fight in Syria and establishing a network for the terrorists is a shame on Tunisia.”

She said that some Tunisian mothers who came to Syria managed to convince their sons, who came to fight alongside the terrorists in Syria, to return to their homeland. However, she noted, many of those Tunisians refused to return because they were brainwashed.

“We apologize to the Syrian people for the suffering caused to them because of the acts of some mercenaries who don’t represent the Tunisian people,” Brahimi said.
