DAMASCUS, (ST)-Hundreds of detainees were released on Saturday within the framework of enhancing national reconciliation in the country.
Justice Minister Hisham al-Shaar said that 672 detainees, including 91 women, were released in several Syrian provinces, adding that some of them will be put on routine trials.
“Releasing the detainees comes within the government’s keenness on maintaining national reconciliation and on giving another chance for misled people to return to their normal life and be effective in building their country, al-Shaar said.
The Syrian state has restored security and stability to several areas across the country thanks to the sacrifices of the Syrian Arab army and the allied and supportive forces, the minister added.
He urged the released persons to prove to the whole world that they are keen on the security and unity of Syria and on fighting terrorism and takfiri ideas.
Damascus Governor Bisher al-Sabban, on his part, told journalists that the secret of Syri steadfastness is the cohesion of the Syrian people with their army and leadership, stressing that Syria will triumph over terrorism soon.
Alaa Ibrahim, Governor of Damascus Countryside, pointed out that many of the persons who were released have realized that they were wrong and expressed desire to join their fellow citizens in reconstructing the country and supporting the Syrian army against terrorists.
