Ambassador Ala: Syria urges respect for Venezuela’s sovereignty

Geneva – Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Ambassador Hussam Eddin Ala, urged all states to fully respect Venezuela’s sovereignty, not to interfere in its internal affairs and recognize the Venezuelan people’s right to determine their future without foreign interventions, SANA reported.

Speaking at the 35th session of Human Rights Council, item 10, supporting technical assistance and capacity building, Ambassador Ala reiterated Syria’s support to the legitimate government in Venezuela and its efforts to protect human rights and hold political dialogue in order to preserve stability in the country.

He said that the Syrian Arab Republic refuses the use of the Human Rights Council as a tool to implement the policies of some states which serve terrorist sabotage acts and aim to spread chaos in order to undermine the legitimate institutions in these states, dominate them and deprive them from their sovereign power of decision-making.

Ambassador Ala condemned acts of vandalism and violence which threaten peace and security in Venezual in implementation of foreign schemes that aim at destabilizing the country.

He stressed that providing technical assistance and building capacity should be based upon consultation with states concerned  and taking into account their needs and national priorities away from any political conditions or circumstances in order to enhance constructive cooperation and dialogue as well as the ability of these states to fulfill their international obligations.
