DAMASCUS, (ST)- Health Minister Nizar Yazigi and the Iranian Ambassador in Damascus Javad Turkabadi on Wednesday discussed enhancing health cooperation and implementing the agreements signed between the two countries.
The minister said that the ministry is ready to facilitate all procedures as to boost cooperation with the Iranian side in the area of exchanging expertise and ensuring certain kind of quality medicine and necessary medical equipment . He added the ministry is seeking cooperation with friendly countries, namely Iran in order to meet the need of the Syrian health sector which has been suffering the impacts of the economic sanctions imposed on Syria.
Yazigi hailed the support of the Iranian government and people for the Syrians in the face of the terrorist war imposed on their homeland.
He expressed his deep condolences to the families of the victims of the two terrorist attacks that targeted Iran recently.
On his part, the Iranian ambassador expressed his country’s willingness to reactivate the signed health agreements to serve the interest of the peoples of Syria and Iran.
Turkabadi pointed out that the relations between Syria and Iran are strategic and they enjoy great interest at the highest level in both countries, hailing Syria’s achievements in the fight against terrorism and expressing his confidence that Syria will triumph over terrorism soon.
In August 2015, the health ministries of Syria and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding on medical cooperation. In May of 2016, the two countries signed a cooperation agreement that provided for supplying medicines and medical equipment for the hospitals working for the health and higher Education ministries and for the medical; services at the Interior Ministry.
