Iran, France more determined to fight terrorism

Tehran — President Hassan Rouhani and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron held a telephone conversation on Wednesday, stressing the importance of the expansion of Tehran-Paris ties to jointly fight against terrorism.

The two presidents underlined that the terrorists’ blind measures have made the two countries to have stronger determination to confront terrorism overwhelmingly, according to IRNA.

Rouhani, over the phone, thanked his French counterpart for sympathizing with the Iranian nation and government over the deadly terrorist attacks in Tehran that claimed lives of 13 Iranians and injured 52 others.

Combatting terrorism needs a concerted and common measure in the global arena, said the Iranian President, stressing that the Iranian nation along with the freedom-seeking nations around the world continues fight with the heinous phenomenon of terrorism.

Rouhani went on to say that Tehran is ready to strengthen and deepen cooperation with Paris and other European governments in combating terrorism.

About the Wednesday terrorist attacks on Iran’s Majlis (Parliament) and Imam Khomeini’s mausoleum, Rouhani said the terrorist action, which was made by the enemies of democracy, took place after the May 19 presidential election in which the Iranian people had a high turnout.

Democracy and the presence of the people in various areas is the biggest move that can help stand against terrorism, Rouhani added.

Rouhani further stressed the necessity not to let the advocates of terrorism continue their support for terrorists.

On the regional development, Rouhani pointed to dialogue as the best way to remove the disputes.

For his part, Macron said his country is fully ready to develop cooperation with Iran to powerfully fight against terrorism.

He also expressed sympathy with the Iranian nation and government as well as the families of the victims of the terrorist attacks in Tehran.

The French president further expressed his country’s readiness to boost ties with Iran in different areas.

In addition, the two presidents exchange views about Syria and Yemen after reviewing their common stance on those issues.
