Gatilov: New Round of Astana Talks on Syria to Be Held on June 12-13

MOSCOW, (ST)- Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov has stressed that a new round of talks on Syria will be held in the Kazakh capital on June 12 and 13.

The Russian Interfax News Agency said today that the “armed Syrian opposition is invited to take part in this meeting”.

Special Envoy of the Russian President for the Middle East and North Africa Mikhail Bogdanov said yesterday that Moscow called for holding a new meeting on Syria in the framework of the Astana talks in mid June.

Communication is underway for setting the precise date of this meeting, which Russia hopes to be in mid June,  added Bogdanov, voicing satisfaction over Kazakhstan’s readiness to host such a high-level meeting again

The Kazakh capital Astana has hosted four meetings on the crisis in Syria  during which parties stressed commitment to Syria’s sovereignty, independence and unity and called for fixing the cessation of hostilities . During the last meeting early in April, a Russian memorandum on the establishment of de-escalation zones in Syria was signed.
