Russian Air Force Eliminates 80 ISIS Terrorists Trying to Move to Palmyra from Raqqa

MOSCOW- Russia’s Air Force has destroyed three convoys of ISIS terror organization (outlawed in Russia), killing 80 terrorists, a source in the Russian Defense Ministry told reporters on Thursday.

“During the night of May 31 to June 1, members of the [Islamic State] terror group made another attempt to move to the Palmyra area,” the source said. “Three militant convoys left Raqqa under the cover of the night and headed south using various routes, their movement was detected by our intelligence,” he added. “Russia’s Aerospace Force delivered airstrikes on several targets, killing more than 80 IS terrorists and destroying 36 cars, eight fuel tanker trucks and 17 jeeps mounted with mortars and large-caliber weapons,” the source added, according to ItarTass.

 According to the Defense Ministry, the command of the Russian forces deployed to Syria “had warned that any attempt by IS militants to leave Raqqa in the direction of Palmyra will be thwarted.”

The first terrorist convoy heading to Palmyra from Raqqa was destroyed by the Russian Aerospace Force on May 25.

The Russian Defense Ministry added that ISIS terrorists have been crossing the River Euphrates and leaving Raqqa  despite the fact that they are almost encircled by the armed units of the “Syrian Democratic Forces”, supported by US, British and French special operations units.

Shoigu briefs Putin on successful missile attack on ISIS facilities in Syria

Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday that the Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu briefed President Vladimir Putin about the successful Kalibr missile attack on the facilities of the so-called “Islamic State” terror group (outlawed in Russia) in Syria,

“Shoigu reported to Putin about the successful launches of the Kalibr missiles, fired at the IS facilities in Syria,” he said.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, “the Admiral Essen frigate and the Krasnodar submarine currently deployed to the eastern section of the Mediterranean Sea, fired four Kalibr missiles at the IS facilities near Palmyra.” “. All targets have been hit,” the ministry said adding that the submarine had fired missiles from underwater.

The attack targeted terrorist shelters east of Palmyra, where militants armed with heavy weapons had moved from Raqqa, the Defense Ministry noted.
