Iran, China Slam US – Saudi Arms Deal as Destabilizing Move

Iran and China high-ranking national security officials criticized US and Saudi Arabia’s policies, including their recent multi-billion-dollar arms contract, as destabilizing factors for the region.

Iran’s Secretary of Supreme Nation Security Council (SNSC) and Secretary of the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China held talks Wednesday on the sidelines of the 8th international high-level meeting on security issues in Tver Region northwest of Moscow.

Pointing to the “significant” ground and political achievements made by anti-terrorism coalition allies of Syria to put an end to the country’s crisis, Shamkhani said that the US is supporting Takfiri terrorism by fabricating lies on the chemical attack against Syrian town Khan Sheikhoun.

He also welcomed China’s joining Syrian-Syrian talks in Astana, Kazakhstan and described the presence in political process of solving the crisis in Syria as a positive step.

Meng Jianzhou, as the highest national security official of China, for his part, expressed concern over US unilateral action in the region calling its arm contract with Saudi Arabia as a destabilizing factor for the region.

The US signed a 110-billion-dollar arms deal with Saudi Arabia during the President Donald Trump’s recent visit to the country.

Expressing China’s readiness for intelligence and anti-terrorism cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran, he also invited Shamkhani to visit Beijing for further talks in the field.

No country should affect Tehran-Islamabad ties, says Shamkhani

In the same context, Shamkhani held meeting with Naseer Khan Janjua, Pakistan’s national security advisor on the sidelines of a high-level international security summit in Russia’s northwestern city of Tver.

He stressed that Iran and Pakistan should not allow any third country to undermine relations between the two countries.

“We should not let any third countries, which do not favor security and good neighborliness between Iran and Pakistan, affect friendly ties between the two countries,” Shamkhani said.

The eighth international high-level meeting on security issues kicked off on Tuesday with representatives of over 90 states, including Iranian senior security experts, exchanging viewpoints and sharing experiences on global information security and fight against the international organized crime.

Iran’s SNSC Secretary held talks with his Russian and Iraqi counterparts on the sidelines of the conference.
