Premier Meets Ambassadors of Friendly Countries to Promote Economic Cooperation

Damascus,(ST) – Prime Minister Imad Khamis received here yesterday ambassadors and businessmen of sisterly and friendly countries in Damascus and discussed with them the promotion and development of economic cooperation between Syria and these countries.

Eng. Khamis expressed the appreciation of the Syrian government for the positions of these countries supporting the Syrian people in the face of the terrorist war, adding that “The economic program of the government includes self-reliance and the return of the production process which was stopped by terrorism.”

 He said that the economic situation is not likely to wait. The trend was to work according to the economy of war and to activate cooperation with friendly countries to overcome the challenges imposed by the terrorist war on various sectors.

Eng. Khamis gave a presentation on the government’s orientations in the economic field, enhancing investment opportunities, expanding the production process and participating in various activities and exhibitions to open up new horizons for the Syrian products locally and abroad.

 “Many economic headlines are appearing today, the most important of which is the launch of the 59th Damascus International Fair, we launched the exhibition after five –year stop and we will provide free space to ensure the share of the activities of friendly countries. “

Mr.  Khamis explained that “the government is working to the session of the Fair this year distinct from all aspects and a comprehensive plan has been developed for all details related to the organization, participation of local and foreign, cultural activities and entertainment accompanying the Fair,” considering that Syria’s relations with friendly countries are in terms of economic centered in two directions; the mutual benefit and the support of the friendly countries of the Syrian government and people during the last period.

For their part, the ambassadors expressed keen interest in developing economic cooperation with Syria in various fields, stressing their care  to participate in the Damascus International Fair next August.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Dr. Mohammed Samer Al-Khalil, Assistant Secretary-General of the Cabinet Lina Raslan and Director General of the General Organization of Exhibitions and International Markets, Fares Karatli.

In a statement to reporters after the meeting, the Minister of Economy pointed out that the meeting focused on the need to “activate economic cooperation with friendly countries in various fields at the level of trade exchange and enhance the level of political relations and achieve economic integration with these countries as well as at the level of credit lines. “

The minister pointed out that the participants in the meeting stressed the importance of holding the 59th session of the Damascus International Fair this year that reflects the real re-start of the Syrian economy in its various aspects.

“It is an important opportunity for national economic activities to meet with their counterparts of friendly countries, ” he said.

 For his part, Mr. Karatli said that the meeting focused on the economic relations with friendly countries and the economic plan of the government in facing the unjust war on Syria, expressing the organization’s readiness to communicate with ambassadors to enhance their participation in the Damascus International Fair.
