Russian Embassy in Vienna Holds ‘Syria. Photo Chronicles of War’ Exhibition

Russian embassy in Vienna has held a photo exhibition showing everyday life at the Hmeymim airbase and crimes and acts of sabotage perpetrated by terrorist organizations in Syria.

According to the Russian Sputnik  website, the photos were taken by correspondents of Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency (Michael Alaeddin, Mikhail Voskresenskiy, Valery Melnikov and Ilya Pitalev) and operators of VGTRK (Viktor Prikhodko and Alexandr Pushin).

“The photos exhibited at Russia’s State Duma show  the lives destroyed by the war, everyday life at the Hmeymim airbase and work of the Russian Aerospace Forces during anti-terrorist operation,” the website said, indicating that the title of the exhibition is ‘Syria. Photo Chronicles of War’.

In this context, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) quoted the well-known Russian press photographer Valery Melnikovas saying: “This is not the first European city that exhibits photos.. I hope that a lot of people will see these photos in order to realize the suffering of people in Syria… I love Syria.”

Strong political and humanitarian message

Russia’s Permanent Representative to  Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE)  Alexander Lukashevich said during the opening ceremony of the exhibition: “The exhibition is a strong political and humanitarian message to reach a solution to crisis in Syria as soon as possible.”

“Russia has played a leading role in unifying efforts to fight terrorism,” he added.

The opening ceremony of the exhibition was attended by Syria’s Ambassador to Austria, Russia’s Ambassador to United Nations in Vienna, member of the Russian Duma, several ambassadors and diplomatic missions.

Last month, Sputnik and Russian broadcaster All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (VGTRK) opened an exhibition under the same title:’Syria: A Photo Chronicles of the War’ at the Russian Science and Culture Centre in Bucharest, Romania.

The photos captured by Sputnik photo journalists and VGTRK cameramen depicted the story of  the conflict in Syria between 2015 – 2016 through the eyes of ordinary people whose lives have been devastated by the war
