Press Conference on Preparations for Holding 59th Damascus International Fair after Five-Year Stop

DAMASCUS– The Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade in cooperation with the General Establishment for Exhibitions and International Markets held on Sunday a press conference for the representatives of a number of companies, ambassadors, diplomats and businessmen to address the preparations that have been taken for holding the 59th edition of Damascus International Fair.

The 59th session of Damascus International Fair will be held between the 19th and the 26th of May at Damascus Fairgrounds on the road to Damascus International Airport, SANA reported.

 During the conference, Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Adib Mayyaleh affirmed that the Ministry is exerting all efforts to ensure the success of this edition of Damascus International Fair, stressing the need to invest all the capabilities of the public and private sectors to restore glamour to the Fair and to overcome all obstacles to find investment, trade and tourist projects.

For his part, Information Minister Mohammad Ramez Tourjman asserted that the Fair is not only an economic event but also a social and cultural one, pointing out that holding this exhibition in 2017 is a message to the world that the Syrians are committed to the culture of life and that they will work to rebuild the homeland.

He added that holding this edition is also a proof of the return of security due to the victories made by the Syrian Arab Army and the resilience of the Syrian economic figures despite of all what they have been exposed to due to the terrorist war.

Culture Minister Ahmad al-Ahmad noted that the upcoming Fair will include cultural and art activities and events that will show the civilized image of Syria.

For his part, Fares Kartali, the Director of the General Establishment for Exhibitions and International Markets, pointed out that the team work of the Fair has sent invitations to all the economic figures inside and outside Syria to participate in the Fair, expecting a distinguished participation from friendly countries and foreign companies.

The press conference was attended by a number of ambassadors, commercial attachés, businessmen, heads of Chambers of Tourism and Syrian exporters and craftsmen associations.
