NEW YORK, (ST)- The UN Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura has invited the Syrian government and opposition to resume the intra-Syrian talks in Geneva on March 23rd.
In a press conference he held in New York, de Mistua said the fifth round of the talks will also be indirect.
He clarified that he had briefed the International Security Council, in a closed-door meeting, on the results of the fourth round of Intra-Syrian talks held recently in Geneva, urging the parties that participated in Astana meeting in addition to the guarantor countries to help fix the cessation of hostilities in Syria.
The fourth round of intra-Syrian talks concluded in Geneva last week. De Mistura said that the participants in the peace talks had defined a clear agenda for further negotiations, reflected by four “baskets” of issues for crisis resolution — governance, constitution, elections and counterterrorism. The parties have agreed to discuss the four issues in parallel.
