Syria-Brazilian Talks to Activate the Role of Businessmen in Boosting Bilateral Economic Ties

Damascus, (ST) – A number of businessmen representing members of the Syrian Chambers of Commerce discussed yesterday with the Secretary General of the Arab- Brazilian Chamber of Commerce Dr. Michel al-Halabi and charge d’ affaires of the Brazilian Embassy in Damascus Achilles Zelwar ways of activating the role of Syrian and Brazilians businessmen in the development of trade and economic relations between the two countries.

  During the meeting, Mr. al- Halabi underlined the readiness Syrian – Brazilian Chambers of Commerce to support the development of economic and trade relations between the two countries, inviting the Brazilian businessmen to visit Syria and participate in the Damascus International Fair as well as discuss ways of their contribution to the reconstruction process, especially that the time is very appropriate for looking for job opportunities and partnership between the two sides.

 The Brazilian Charge d’ affaires in Damascus pointed out that what we need now is to do  constant and real steps toward the development of relations between Syria and Brazil especially in the economic and trade areas, adding “we have the first step to open the Brazilian Consulate in Damascus, which allows the provision of swift action of transactions to get access to Brazil.”

 He also expressed the hope that the establishment of a direct air route in the future to facilitate the transition between the two countries, stressing the desire of Brazil that peace and stability to prevail in Syria, and his country to be a partner in the reconstruction.

 For his part, Chairman of the Damascus Chamber of Commerce Ghassan Qalla’ confirmed the depth of relations between the two countries, noting the position of the Brazilian supporting of Syria, calling for Syrian businessmen and Brazilian expatriates to visit Syria.

 For his part, Secretary General of the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce Muhammad Hamsho pointed out to the importance of the participation of friendly countries, including Brazil and its businessmen in the reconstruction process. Vice President of the Damascus Chamber of Commerce Ammar Al- Bardan stressed the importance of expanding the list of trade exchange between the two countries, thus contributing to meet the needs of local market of Brazilian products.

 Member the Homs Chamber of Industry, Tarif Al –Akhras, noted the importance of encouraging Brazilian businessmen to visit Syria in order to change the stereotype presented by the Western media and to clarify the true picture of what is happening in Syria.
