Syrian Arab Republic’s Delegation Satisfied over Course of Geneva Talks: Source

GENEVA- A source close to the delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic in Geneva said on Wednesday that the delegation is satisfied over the course of talks and it submitted yesterday a number of amendments and notes on the paper, handed over by the special envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura, entitled “basic principles for the political solution in the Syrian Arab Republic,” according to SANA.

The source added that the delegation asked de Mistura to inform the delegations of “oppositions” about the amended paper and to get their position towards it, affirming that during the last two days, there were deep and fruitful talks between the delegation and de Mistura on the agenda of talks which was crowned by agreement on the agenda that includes four baskets which are terrorism, rule, constitution and elections.

 It said the delegation of Syrian Arab Republic has raised the issue of statements by some sides and their conveying of inaccurate speeches to de Mistura regarding the description of the course of talks, stressing that such behavior doesn’t come in the interest of the international envoy’s credibility and it aims at misleading the public opinion and foiling Geneva meeting, calling upon de Mistura to control such statements.

Al-Jaafari Discusses with Gatilov the Course of Syrian-Syrian Talks in Geneva

SANA delegate to Geneva was informed that head of the Syrian Arab Republic to Geneva Bashar al-Jaafari held today a new meeting with deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Gennady Gatilov to discuss the course of the Syrian-Syrian dialogue being run in Geneva.

Gatilov, in a press statement, following his meeting with “al-Riyadh opposition”, renewed Russia’s full support to the efforts of UN Special envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura, saying that holding a direct dialogue meantime between the delegation of Syrian Arab Republic and the delegations of “oppositions” is not possible.

He added that Moscow has suggested to the delegation of “al-Riyadh opposition” to continue contacts regarding the breaches of cessation of hostilities in Syria.

Gatilov considered that members of “al-Riyadh opposition” maybe don’t possess full information about the development of situation on the ground in Syria, saying the information they have don’t keep up with reality.

He said “there is a joint understanding on the need for going ahead in the settlement of crisis in Syria.”

For its part, the Russian mission to the International organizations in Geneva said that Gatilov held consultations with the delegation of “Cairo Platform” dealing with the crisis in Syria.
