Obama’s Administration Ensured Cover for Jabhat al-Nusra to Use It in Overthrowing Syria’s Legitimate Government

MOSCOW, (ST)-Moscow believes that the administration of the former US President Barack Obama has ensured cover for the crimes of Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said.

“Three years ago, Washington launched its alleged war on Daesh terror organization after the terrorists had killed many Americans, but simultaneously it was ensuring a cover for Jabhat al-Nusra acts hoping to use it later in overthrowing the legitimate government in Syria,” Ryabkov explained, as cited by the Russian Sputnilk News Agency during a session for the Russian Duma dedicated to discuss the Russian-American relations.

Ryabkov added that “the new US administration led by Donald Trump stresses its strong willingness to cooperate with Russia on fighting terrorism till victory. Unlike Obama’s, Trump’s administration realizes well that international terrorism is the obstacle hindering settlement in Syria not the Syrian president.”

He affirmed Russia’s constant readiness to cooperate with the United States in the fight against terrorism in Syria, “but such initiatives have been hampered by Obama’s administration”.

Elsewhere in his statement, Ryabkov criticized the former US administration’s hysterical anti-Russia policy during and after the American presidential elections, stressing that it exceeded logic and correct thinking and led to extreme Russiaphobia among the Americas.

The Russian senior diplomat said that Russia welcomes Trump’s remarks on the need to normalize ties between Moscow and Washington, but warned that the Russia-US relations are currently experiencing the worst era since Cold War.
