In a statement to the Iranian Mehr News Agency in Damascus, al-Mikdad said “the liberation of Aleppo from the terrorist groups has foiled all Syria’s enemies’ plans and it has naturally changed equations in Syria, the region and the entire world, an issue that was stressed by the latest Astana talks.”

“This victory will certainly have its positive reflections at the diplomatic and political arenas. It has improved the situation in Syria and became an introduction for coming victories not only at the military level, but also at the political and diplomatic levels, added al-Mikdad.

He reiterated the need to strongly fight the takfiri thinking, which is the main cause of terrorism in the region, noting the importance of unified stances in this respect.

“We need unified stances in the face of colonialist intervention, but his unity should be obligatory when confronting conspiracies targeting the region,” al-Mikdad went on to say, affirming that Syria has raised slogans in defense of Palestine, which is one of the reasons why Syria is being attacked by the United States, Britain and France.

Concerning the latest Astana talks on Syria, the Syrian senior diplomat said “the Syrian priority now is to eliminating terrorism which is backed by the United States, France, Britain and some countries in the region. Our diplomatic efforts are now focusing on achieving this goal.”

He added that the countries involved in fanning  the crisis in Syria should stop their interference in Syria’s internal affairs and cooperate with the Syrian government in fighting terrorism.

Al-Mikdad hailed  the Iranian effective stance in defense of the Syrian people, noting the solid ties between Syria and Iran and the common strategic goals of the two countries.
