Russia True Partner of Syria in Battle against Terrorism: PA Speaker

DAMASCUS, (ST)- Russia is a true partner of Syria in its battle against Takfiri terrorism which targets the civilization and human history of all countries, Speaker of the People’s Assembly (PA) Hadiyeh Abbas Monday told a Russian parliamentary delegation visiting Syria.

“It is axiomatic to see the Syrian and Russian peoples in the same trench in defense of the future of the entire humanity..We either defeat terrorism, and we will do, or terrorism defeats us and consequently we lose the future of our peoples, which something that will never happen thanks to our cooperation with all honest peoples of the world,” Abbas said.

 She added that history will record the victories achieved by the Syrian Arab Army, backed by Syria’s allies and friends, against terrorism, noting that these victories have protected humanity from the plague of terrorism and contributed to preserving democracy as well as cultural and human values against the backwardness of the takfiri terrorists.

The meeting between Abbas and the guest Russian delegation focused on ways to boost parliamentary relations between Syria and Russia to serve the interests of both countries’ peoples.

The PA Speaker said that parliamentary coordination between Syria and Russia contributed greatly to changing the policies of some international parliamentary organizations to the interests of Syria stances,  noting that this is an achievement of Syrian and Russian policies, according to SANA.

On his part, head of the Russian delegation and member of Russian Federation Council Dmitry Sablin, said that “the Russians support the struggle of the Syrian people and back the decisions of President Vladimir Putin as well as the steps and procedures adopted by the Syrian leadership.”

Sablin, also the coordinator of Duma Council group for cooperation with the Syrian People’s Assembly, said that the situation in Syria during the past months has become better, hoping that stability would return to all areas in Syria.

He referred to the possibility of providing medical treatment in Moscow to the Syrian children who suffer from cancer.

The Russian delegation also met with chairman and members of the Arab and International Affairs Committee of the People’s Assembly . Talks dealt with cooperation in different fields.

Sablin: Forming a new Syrian constitution is up to the Syrian people

In a press conference following the two meetings, head of the delegation Dmitry Sablin described the talks as fruitful and constructive as they focused on reactivating cooperation in the political, media, economic, cultural and humanitarian fields.

Concerning reports about a draft Syrian constitution proposed by Russia, Sablin said “forming the new Syrian constitution is up to the Syrian people first of all. Besides, there is a constitution in Syria agreed on by the Syrians  in 2012 and if Syria needs our experience in this regard we will be ready to offer it.”     

He also affirmed the negative impacts of the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed by the United States and Europe against the Syrian people.

Minister al-Sayyed meets the Russian parliamentary delegation

In the same context, Minister of Religious Endowments (Awqaf) Mohammad Abdul-Sattar al-Sayyed met the visiting Russian MPs who stressed cohesion between Syria and Russia and the correlation between Christians and Muslims in defense of holy values and in the face of terrorism.

They stressed the necessity of standing together, in one trench, against terrorism to rescue the humanitarian civilization and Syria which represents an example of coexistence.

The Minister appreciated the Russian’s leadership, army and people for their support to Syria in the war against terrorism, highlighting the importance of the meeting to unify the visions of the two countries on combating terrorism and extremism in the region.

He said that clergymen in Syria have made great sacrifices due to their principled stances against Wahhabism, which invades the Islamic centers in Europe.

In a press statement, Sablin said the delegation’s visit carries a political message, which affirms friendship between the Syrian and Russian MPs, and a human message as the delegation comprises international doctors in the field of children and cancer diseases and an economic message because the delegation comprises a number of Russian businessmen.

He stressed that the delegation will convey the real image about the situation in Syria to the Russian society and will explain to them the Syrian people’s eagerness to preserve their land and sovereignty.

Sablin pointed out that finding a solution to the crisis in Syria needs mobilizing efforts in the religious, political, economic and social sides to combat terrorism.
