Terrorism Hitting Syria the Same Kind of Terrorism Targeting Europe: PA Speaker to Belgian Lawmakers

DAMASCUS, (ST)– Speaker of the People’s Assembly  (PA) Hadiyeh Abbas has stressed the importance of cooperation among countries of the world to uproot terrorism, because “the terrorism which has been hitting Syria is the same kind of terrorism that targeted Europeans in several European capitals.  

During her meeting on Sunday with a Belgian parliamentary delegation led by MP Filip Dewinter,  the speaker affirmed  that Syria will press ahead with fighting terrorism and it highly appreciates the support of the countries which realize that terrorism poses serious threat to the entire world.

 She affirmed the important role that can be played by European parliamentarians in influencing the policies of their governments as to reconsider their wrong stances towards Syria and lift the unjust economic siege imposed by the West on the Syrian people and which caused so much suffering to them.

Abbas pointed out that Syria has confronted the most heinous terrorist war and it is now fighting terrorism on behalf of the entire world, hailing  the support of  Russia, Iran and the Lebanese resistance for the steadfastness of Syria’s army and people.

The PA Speaker asserted that dialogue among the Syrians is the best way to solve the crisis in Syria, reiterating the Syrian people is the only party that can decide the destiny of their country.

Members of the Belgian delegation, on their part, said that the western media outlets continue their misleading reports about events in Syria, particularly in Aleppo. They pointed out that terrorism has become a common enemy, stressing the need to unify international efforts and back Syria as to eradicate this danger.

They vow readiness to convey  the truth about what is going on in Syria and what they saw in Aleppo to the Belgian Parliament and international organizations.

Grand Mufti urges European governments to back Syria’s war on terrorism

Earlier, Syria’s Grand Mufti, Badreddin Hassoun met Dewinter and the accompanying delegation.

He called on the European governments to back Syria’s war on terrorism, stressing that Syria is proceeding towards victory over takfiri terrorists.

He said that the European political systems and the reactionary regimes in the region are the ones who created terrorism.

Hassoun pointed out that “Syria has been and will continue to be a unified secular democratic state.”

Dewinter, on his part, said the Europeans’ view on Syria events has changed and become more evident, particularly after terrorism has hit a number of European countries.

Members of the delegation stressed that they will put pressure on their governments to adopt serious procedures as to fight terrorism and intensify efforts in this respect.

Western Economic Sanctions on Syria an Act of Dictatorship

Member of Belgium’s Federal Parliament Filip Dewinter, who is leading the Belgian parliamentary delegation visiting Syria, has stressed that the economic sanctions imposed on Syria by the western countries are an act of dictatorship and violence against the Syrian people, because they have affected the living and the humanitarian situation of citizens and deprived them of medicines and food. He described the sanctions as “stupid”.

During the delegation’s visit to the makeshift housing center in al-Harjalleh in Damascus Countryside, Dewinter said “he and other European parliamentarians will work as to lift the sanctions to help thousands of Syrian refugees return to their homeland and take part in rebuilding their country.”

 Head of the guest delegation hailed the Syrian state-led reconciliation process, noting that such a step indicates the state’s “wisdom and strength”.  

On his part, head of al-Harjalleh Municipality Abdul Rahim al-Khatieb called on western countries to lift the economic siege imposed on the Syrian people because it has affected the livelihood and the helth situation of the Syrians.

A number of people staying in the makeshift center expressed their appreciation over the services and care provided to them by the government.
