Supporting Small and Micro-Sized Enterprises to Ensure Income for Families Affected by Crisis

DAMASCUS, (ST)- The Syrian Industrial Businesswomen Committee on Saturday held a symposium titled “the importance of small and micro-sized enterprises in finding income for families affected by crisis”.  

Participants in the symposium focused on supporting and financing medium and small-sized enterprises, on disseminating awareness about the important role of such projects in creating productive job opportunities and on facilitating procedures for projects’ owners.

They stressed that these enterprises should be planned to meet society’s needs, calling for focusing on agricultural industries, assisting small and micro-sized facilities, granting “ISO” certificates for food industries, enhancing skills and establishing business network.

 Member of the Committee of Syrian Industrial Businesswomen Rima al-Omari urged more focus on supporting families of martyrs and wounded persons and helping them get income through small and micro-sized enterprises.   

Small and micro-sized enterprises constitutes about 75% of economic facilities in developing countries and they have a key role in combating poverty, according to Ahmad Khalil, Director of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Development.

The symposium was attended by the committee’s members, representatives of the chambers of commerce and industry in Damascus and Damascus Countryside, economic figures and representatives of international banks and organizations concerned in development projects.
