Lavrov, Jordanian Counterpart Discuss Results of Astana Talks

MOSCOW-  Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Jordanian counterpart Ayman al-Safadi discussed during a meeting on Tuesday the results of Astana International Meeting on Syrian Settlement.

According to Itar Tass, the Jordanian minister spoke highly of the outcome of the talks between representatives of the Syrian government and armed opposition groups held in Astana on January 23-24.

He voiced the conviction that all parties “should assist in resolving the crisis” in Syria.

He noted that the Middle East is currently facing many challenges. “These are the political crises, like the one in Syria, the Palestinian problem, the international terrorism challenge, which poses a threat to everyone on earth,” al-Safadi said.

“We have always sought to ensure an end to the suffering of the fraternal Syrian people, stop the crisis and rampant terrorism in Syria,” the minister said. “We would like the political talks under UN auspices on the basis of the existing international legal framework, primarily UN Security Council Resolution 2254, to be launched as soon as possible.”

Intelligence reports stress that Jordan, Turkey and Saudi Arabia established on their territories training camps for terrorists with the help of Saudi funding and under the supervision of the CIA. These countries facilitated the movement of terrorists and their infiltration into Syria. They also facilitated the delivery of money and arms to the terrorist groups in Syria as to encourage them continue committing crimes against the Syrians.
