Cabinet decides to increase amount of imported fuel

Damascus – The Cabinet decided to increase the amount of imported fuel to improve the performance of the electric power grid in general and reduce rationing hours,

This decision was taken during the weekly Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imad Khamis on Tuesday, and it seeks to address the shortage caused by Hayyan gas plant becoming inactive, as this plant was providing up to 4 million cubic meters of gas per day to power electric power plants, an amount that is the equivalent of 3,000 tons of fuel, SANA reported.

The Cabinet approved a bill on giving nine months for companies that haven’t amended their establishment contracts and regulations, and studied the mechanisms for granting import licenses.

The meeting also resulted in forming a work team headed by the Local Administration Minister to follow up on implementing the projects and decisions approved by the governmental delegation that visited Lattakia recently.

The Cabinet tasked the Agriculture Ministry with launching a forestation campaign, the Water Resources Ministry to study the possibility of building more dams and each province’s water needs, the Industry Ministry to reactivate the paper factory in Tartous, in addition to discussing the performance of public-sector printing houses and public and private radios.
