Participants in Islamic Unity Conference Congratulate Syrian, Iraqi Peoples on Victories over Terrorists

TEHRAN, (ST)- Participants in the 30th International Islamic Unity Conference have congratulated the Syrian and Iraqi people on their victories over terrorist takfiri organizations, hoping that the two countries will soon be completely clean of terrorism.

Syria’s Grand Mufti Badreddin Hassoun took part in the conference which was opened in Tehran on Thursday under the title “Islamic Unity and Requirement to Counter Takfiri Currents” . Moslem scholars and religious thinkers from more than 50 countries across the World also participated in the event.

In a statement on Saturday at the conclusion of the activities of the event, the participants urged all Moslem scholars to condemn the takfiri terrorists and announce their innocence of them. They said that the architects and founders of takfiri currents aim at distorting the struggle of the Islamic national resistance in defense of the Palestinian cause.

The statement condemned the takfiri fatwas and called on scholars and intellectuals to adopt decisive stance on this dangerous phenomenon which is the result of the backwardness imposed on the Islamic world because of the colonialist invasion of the region.

The statement also reiterated the importance of monitoring the media outlets that disseminate takfiri thinking and condemned the oppression to which Moslem minorities are  being exposed in some western countries.

The participants condemned incitement against Iran and lashed out at the human right violations in Bahrain.

The role of takfiri currents in fomenting discord among Muslims, the need for countering takfiri currents in order to realize Islamic unity, the danger of takfiri currents for keeping alive the issue of Palestine, and the Zionist regime’s use of takfiri currents were among the topics discussed during the three-day event.
