Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Faisal al-Mikdad has stressed that the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) plays a key role across Syria, especially in crisis-affected areas.
He clarified – during a ceremony held Monday by SARC on the occasion of International Volunteer Day -that Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates daily cooperates with the SARC to facilitate its activities.
“Volunteerism is a noble act which Syrian government has encouraged. We hope that it will expand to cover all provinces,” he added.
On his part, the SARC’s Head Dr. Abdulrahman al-Attar said that volunteers break the wall of fear and pain and carry wounded persons on their shoulders in order to do humanitarian works.
He saluted the young volunteers, who have sacrificed their lives over the past five years to help people, indicating that 57 volunteers, aged between 18 and 26 years, were martyred.
Minister of Local Administration Eng. Hussien Makhlouf stressed that the Syrian government exerts every possible effort in humanitarian field in parallel with encouraging reconciliation deals.
“The Syrian government works on rehabilitating infrastructure in areas to which Syria army restored security,” he added, referring to the fact that the Syrian people will never forget friendly states, which supported it.
Minister of Health Dr. Nizar Yazigi highly praised the SARC efforts during the ongoing war on Syria. “The ministry and the SRAC work together under the current difficult circumstances. About 270 workers in the ministry of health were martyred.”
A four-minute film about works of the SARC’s young volunteers in different areas nationwide was screened during the celebration.
International Volunteer Day is a global celebration of volunteers. It takes place every year on December 5 to shine a light on the impact of volunteer efforts everywhere.
Volunteers are leading social change around the world. This special day promotes the work of volunteers at all levels, including local, national and international.
United Nations Volunteers founded International Volunteer Day in 1985.
