Shoigu: Some 900 Syrian Towns, Villages Joined Moscow-Damascus Reconciliation Efforts

MINSK-Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu has stressed that almost 900 Syrian towns have joined Moscow-Damascus reconciliation efforts, according to Sputnik.

In a statement at a Russia-Belarus defense ministerial board, Shoigu said the Russian and Syrian forces have jointly liberated over 4,600 square miles of territory from terrorists’ control while nearly 900 towns and villages have joined reconciliation efforts.

“As a result of the Russian Aerospace Forces’ and the Syrian government forces’ joint actions, more than 12,000 square kilometers [4,633 square miles] of Syrian territory have been liberated from terrorists. The residents of nearly 900 towns joined the reconciliation process,” Shoigu said.

The Russian minister hailed Belarus’s positive response to Russia’s call on all international organizations and the allies in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CST) to support Syria and provide humanitarian assistance to the Syrian people, stressing that this response was a clear example of alliance between Moscow and Minsk.
