Oun: Political Solution in Syria to Reflect Positively on Situation in Lebanon

BEIRUT, (ST)- President Michel Oun of Lebanon has stressed that reaching political solution to the crisis in Syria soon will reflect positively on the situation in Lebanon, particularly on the issue of the displaced Syrians in Lebanon.

During a phone conversation with US Secretary of State John Kerry initiated by the US side to congratulate Oun of becoming president of Lebanon, Oun reiterated the need to continue the US assistance to the Lebanese army which work to enhance security and stability in Lebanon.

On his part, Kerry voiced support for Lebanon and commitment to back the Lebanese army in the confrontation of terrorism. He pointed out that his country and the international community hope that a new Lebanese government will be formed as soon as possible.

Oun was elected President of Lebanon on Monday after securing 83 votes out of 128 at parliament.
