Algeria’s Ambassador in Damascus Saleh Boshah has reiterated his country’s rejection for intervention in Syria’s internal affairs, asserting that Algeria, since the beginning of crisis in Syria in 201, has called for reaching a political solution within the framework of Syrian-Syrian dialogue.
He said that Algeria has supported Syria since the start of the crisis and has rejected the militarization of conflict in the country.
His remark was made during an interview with the official news agency (SANA) on the occasion of the 62nd anniversary of the Algerian Liberation Revolution against the French Colonialism.
“Syria was among the Arab countries that supported Algeria in international and regional meetings till the achievement of independence. It also backed the Algerian people through solidarity fund and through training many Algerian youths in Syria,” the ambassador said.
He referred to Algeria’s rejection of terrorism in Syria. “Algeria has warned against the spread of terrorism in other countries, but this has happened… In the 1990s, Algeria confronted terrorism amid international silence,” the diplomat clarified.
Commercial exchange
He, in addition, pointed out that the value of commercial exchange between Algeria and Syria was estimated at $ 600 million till 2010 in textile and food sectors and oil derivatives; however the value reduced to $10-20 million due to the crisis in Syria.
The ambassador underlined the need to reach a new mechanism to activate economic cooperation between the two brotherly countries.
Syria and Algeria are seeking to increase the commercial exchange and to develop the commercial deals signed between them since 1979.
