Iranian President Slams Instrumental Use of Terrorism by Some Powers

TEHRAN – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani deplored some major powers for their double-standard approaches to terrorism, saying that their move to use the phenomenon as a tool to reach their goals will finally backfire.

Speaking at a meeting with visiting Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in Tehran on Saturday, Rouhani expressed deep concern over the spread of terrorist groups across the world and stressed the need for cooperation among all countries to address the issue, according to the Tasnim News.

“Terrorism is a global problem and all sides should be united to tackle the problem,” he said, adding, “The instrumental use of terrorist groups by some major powers will finally be to the detriment of themselves.”

Regarding Iran-Venezuela relations, Rouhani said the development of cooperation and relations with Latin American countries, including Venezuela, has always been of high significance to Iran.

Maduro, for his part, underlined that his country is determined to boost cooperation with Iran in all spheres.

Caracas is resolved to implement agreements signed between the two countries and backs consultations to promote cooperation in all political, economic and cultural fields.

Pointing to upcoming OPEC meeting in Vienna, Maduro said that oil producing countries should cooperate to reach a fare deal in a bid to stabilize oil price.

Expansion of relations with Latin American nations in all fields has been top on the agenda of Iran’s foreign policy.
