Participants in Lausanne Meeting Discussed “Interesting Ideas” that Would Influence Situation in Syria: Lavrov

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, (ST)- Participants in the Lausanne meeting on Syria have discussed some “interesting ideas” and agreed to continue their contacts in the coming days, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Saturday.

At the end of the meeting, Lavrov told reporters that parties at the talks had discussed some ideas which could influence the situation in Syria and they agreed to continue their contacts in this respect, hoping that the parties will reach agreements that would encourage reaching settlement in Syria.

 The US State Secretary John Kerry  also said in a statement that the meeting proposed new ideas and that there was consensus on exerting more efforts to revive the cessation of hostilities in Syria.

Russian and US top diplomats Sergey Lavrov and John Kerry in addition to a number of foreign minister of some countries in the region plus the UN Chief’s Special Envoy for Syria Staffan De Mistura on Saturday held a 4-hour meeting in the Swiss city of Lausanne to discuss the situation in Syria. Representatives of Egypt and Iraq also took part in the meeting.

On the sidelines of the talks Lavrov and Kerry held a meeting to discuss ways to solve the crisis in Syria and revive the agreement on the cessation of hostilities in the country.
