Russia acts on its own territory when deploying arms in Kaliningrad, while the United States places its weapons on the territory of Eastern Europe, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.
MOSCOW – Earlier this week, media reports cited a source in the US intelligence saying that Russia was deploying Iskander-M in Kaliningrad. Russian Defense Ministry Spokesman Igor Konashenkov confirmed the reports, saying that Moscow made no secret of sending the missile systems to Kaliningrad as their movement within the country is a standard army practice.
“As regards deployment of weapons on our territory – this is our territory,” Lavrov told CNN. The minister pointed out that the United States was increasing financing allocated to deployment of military near Russia’s border. “Now the American I think F-35s – the latest planes –would be equipped with the modern version of nuclear bombs. And they would be deployed on the Russian borders. And this is not the United States’ territory,” Lavrov added.
