DAMASCUS, (ST)- Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Martin Tlapa has stressed the need to find a political solution to the crisis in Syria, pointing out that his country seeks improving circumstances at the European arena to help the Syrian people surpass the crisis.
In a statement upon his arrival in Damascus on Sunday, Tlapa said “we hope we can contribute to reaching a solution to the crisis in Syria as soon as possible.”
He stressed that the Czech republic is a friend of Syria and “friendship should be expressed at hard times.”
Tlapa, who expressed pleasure for visiting Syria, said “we came to convey humanitarian aid from the Czech people to the Syrian people and to hold talks with a number of Syrian officials.” He noted that his visit aims to continue the talks held in New York late last month between the foreign ministers of Syria and the Czech Republic.
On his part, Ayman Sousan, the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said “the humanitarian aid provided by the Czech Republic is part of the Czech support for the Syrian government’s efforts in confrontation of the critical circumstances caused by the terrorist aggression against Syria.”
He highly appreciated the objective and balanced stances of the friendly Czech Republic towards what is going on in Syria and which contradict the stances of those who are shedding crocodile tears on the humanitarian situation in Syria and who are mainly responsible for such a deteriorating situation because of their incessant support for terrorism in Syria and because of the unfair and illegitimate sanctions they have been imposing on the Syrian people.
On the sidelines of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly held late last month, Deputy Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Walid al-Moallem held talks with his Czech Counterpart Lumboir Zaoralek on the situation in Syria. The two sides affirmed the importance of international cooperation in the fight against terrorism and in efforts to restore security and stability to Syria.
Zaoralek reiterated that finding a political solution to the crisis in Syria is the responsibility of all countries.
