Blocking Russia’s Draft Resolution on Syria Confirms Absence of Political Will to Fight Terrorism, Solve Crisis

NEW YORK- Blocking the Russian draft resolution on Syria confirms the absence of political will among those who opposed the draft to fight terrorism and reach political solution to the crisis in Syria, Syria’s Permanent Representative at the UN Bashar al-Jaafari has underscored, according the state news agency SANA.

In his speech at the Security Council session on Saturday, al-Jaafari said that the French draft resolution on Syria submitted to the Security Council reflects France’s longing to its black colonialist past, as it thought that the crisis in Syria will restore a bygone colonial influence.

Russia  on Saturday vetoed a French draft resolution on Syria, noting that it contains a number of unacceptable items for Russia and it politicizes the humanitarian issue to a large extent.

According to al-Jaafari, the French politicians should feel ashamed for what they did to Libya and the Libyan people. He stressed that the draft resolution showed France’s intentions to undermine the Syrian state.

Syria’s Representative at the UN said that whenever the Syrian Arab Army achieves victories over terrorists, mainly “Jabhat al-Nusra”, some Security Council members rush to save these terrorists by urging the council to convene and by submitting draft resolutions that seek easing the pressure on the terrorists without taking the suffering of the Syrian people into consideration.

Al-Jaafari stressed that the massacre taking place in Syria has been caused by foreign terrorists; some of them were born in France and other European countries, adding that he hoped that France and its allies would ban themselves from providing support to terrorists in Syria rather than talk about a no-fly zone.

He noted that terrorists in eastern Aleppo transformed the most prominent optometry hospital in the Middle East to a base for their operations.

Al-Jaafari noted that the representatives of France, Britain, and the US didn’t feel ashamed when they blocked Security Council resolutions on ending the Israeli occupation of Arab territories.
